The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) is a registered non-profit organisation dedicated to preventing drowning and providing water-related emergency response across South Africa's coastal and inland waterways. As the only non-profit in South Africa with a sole national mandate for drowning prevention, the NSRI delivers an integrated model that combines education, prevention, and rescue services—ensuring that lifesaving support reaches communities with the highest vulnerability.
South Africa's persistently high rates of fatal and non-fatal drowning, most acute in under-resourced and rural communities, drive the NSRI's organisational needs. To fulfil its mission to save lives, change lives, and create futures, the NSRI must sustain full operational readiness, expand access to water-safety and survival-swimming education, and strengthen community-level capacity for prevention and response.
